In 2019 we were engaged by Electric Marketing to rebuild their eCommerce website. Their existing site was over 10 years old, was not responsive, and looked extremely dated. They wanted to retain their existing brand colours but move to a more contemporary design, whilst simultaneously making it easier for visitors to find products.
We redesigned their site to be less cluttered and have a more structured hierarchical layout. We used responsive SASS styling to allow the layout to change itself based on the screen size, ensuring it was comfortable to use on mobile devices. We used the Gutenberg editor to allow for the easy adding of content and rearranging of the layout. Drop-down menus and breadcrumbs were used throughout the site. Based off of analytics data we created a number of call-to-action blocks on the home page, the majority of which lead users into the catalogue search functionality.
This site needed the ability to perform faceted searches of a database. For this we used Apache Solr, and enterprise-grade internal search engine. This allowed for the custom tagging of content and for filtered searches. Electric Marketing also needed the ability to import and export product data as CSV files, for which we added a dedicated page to the admin menu.
As is standard with all our Drupal projects we installed the Metatag and AddToAny modules. The former provides the ability to add Twitter Cards and Facebook Open Graph tags to all pages, whilst the latter allows for the adding of Share buttons to pages for a long list of social media platforms. The site is fully responsive and optimised for SEO.
